2012 Journalism Award
According to the 2010 State of the News Media report of the Pew Research Center, immigration receives minimal attention from American news media, despite the importance of this issue in society and its complexity as a public-policy issue. Based on frequency, immigration is ranked 24th out of 26 topics covered in the news.
However, according to the 2011 Transatlantic Trends: Immigration survey of the German Marshall Fund, 15% of Americans listed immigration as their highest or second-highest concern.
With the Immigration Journalism Award, the French-American Foundation will recognize and bring increased national and international attention – both from the media and the public – to excellent pieces of journalism on the topic of immigration and integration and to high-quality immigration reporting in general.
This year, the French-American Foundation will select up to two winners for work published in the United States or in Europe, in English or French. Award recipients may win up to $10,000 and will be invited to attend and speak at the Immigration Journalism Award Ceremony in New York (Fall 2012), where their work will be celebrated in the presence of renowned media professionals. The deadline for submission is FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2012 AT 12 PM EST.
